The project was the watershed project, the moment that I knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life. Richard and Sara aren’t your average clients, they both have their distinct swagger and flair, but with an overwhelming warmth and appreciation of the smaller things in life.
They are supported by the 4 wonderful children who are a mixture of both personalities. I was introduced to this project after the concept was designed thru a family friend architect.
It was a logistical nightmare with access being the first hurdle to come across, we made a 15 temporary structural steel ramp and that was our access point through the earliest stages of the build.
The brief was to update their 1960’s modern house western facing adjacent a concrete pool and extend 6 metres towards their uninterrupted views of Adelaide, their taste was simple and classic with the personality of Richards memorabilia and trinkets to add all this colour and warmth.
We replaced all windows throughout the house and installed Western Red Cedar Windows and Doors and changed the old 60’s timber cladding with smooth square set Gyprock finished linings which added this crisp edge. We renovated 2 Bathrooms, Laundry and added an ensuite to Alfie’s bedroom.
We replaced all flooring throughout the house which became a curve ball and a lesson as it was faulty and moved on installation, we then replaced it with a reputable product which is now enhanced the renovation-extension 10 fold, we renovation the old balcony and extending the balcony and they tiled it. We tiled their pool and tiled around the pool to create a summer paradise hidden in the foothills.
We added WIR in 2 lower bedrooms and gave the staircase and stairwell a major makeover, Richards Office was given some loving and the upstairs kitchen was moved downstairs, the kitchen design was driven by Richard and his finish with the second-hand feature island bench is the distinct winner in this room.
The overall finish was crisp and very unique, it was a pleasure working with these 2 and I have gained so much from this project professionally and personally. This job ran over the initial program by double because the logistic of working on the side of a hill, but the finishes are second to none and my clients are really happy with the outcome.
Thank you Allandale Ave you nearly broke me twice but you’ve taught me so much, look forward to a gin with Richard and Sara soon.
