After a referral from one of my trades, I met Dave and Anne, a beautiful couple in Stirling.
When we met, everything prebuild was finished and ready to build we discussed details but you could tell that this project had been bubbling on behind the scenes of this marriage for a few years.
There was the utmost clarity in most facets of the project, I knew my job was just to facilitate the tricky site and give these guys their vision.
Dave is very intelligent nuts and bolts guy and Anne had the design flair, perfect team for the block. Wink wink!!
The site had a fair slope and when I first arrived it was unused space, this made a lot of sense and it gave the Gray family an extra living area.
We built the whole frame out of Structure steel from Lincoln Shannon Engineers and this was the challenging part of this project, the sloping block the galvanised finish and the connecting hallway being of centred to the living spaces cause some stress.
But Lincoln’s drive for perfection meant we slowly wore this job down, it was a shame to cover the steel up but the show must go on and we starting the hebel flooring. This job was focussed on making this area well built to handle the extreme weather throughout the hills region.
With the hebel flooring and the double 90mm timber wall frames, with the double glazing throughout the windows and doors and to the point of bondeck roofing panels in the connecter hallway. This was designed for this climate.
The next challenge we had in this project was the use of 4 different tyoes of cladding to make this watertight, we had hebel, corrugated cladding, max line cladding, mini orb cladding and CFC sheeting all with different processes and thickness working and fighting for attention amongst the external walls.
But Anne’s dad Dave labour of love the stackerstone was the finishing touch that really made this external tied into the natural landscape. Once we finished the externals we moved inside and worked on the final fitout, Anne worked directly with the floor tiler as this was out of our scope of works and Dave laid the deck.
Milan tce was definitely a team effort and I’m really happy with the end result, I hope the Gray family enjoy their wonderful private living oasis for years to come.
